Trailed Ahead
Proposed work as accepted for soundpedro 2021:
Parallel Gateways Roaming
“Parallel Gateways” is a soundwalk that uses the free app “Echoes XYZ” to play soundfiles for a participant to explore. The soundwalk contents would reference the surrounding areas while expanding into a foreign sound world for participants to explore. There is a possibility for 3 separate walks for participants to choose from, one for the morning, afternoon, and night. They are not reliant on the time of day, for instance, participants can come in the morning for the walk but select the night soundwalk, and vice versa.
This soundwalk can span outside in a park or along a walkway, inside a building, or a combination of the two. Participants do not have to follow a designated path and can explore the sounds freely. The walk follows COVID-19 protocols and participants can avoid close contact with one another while they complete the walk on their own time.
Andrew Dyet is an LA-based composer and multi-instrumentalist who’s work exists at the intersection of acoustic, electric, classical, and noise; focusing on creating moments that expand in time, often growing into complex, deep worlds before returning to reality. He has performed as a trumpet player, pianist, percussionist, and laptop musician in solo and ensemble settings. Andrew has been commissioned by soloists and ensembles across North America and was an artist-in-residence at the 2020 Westben Performer-Composer Residency.
