PARTICIPATION
Connecting: :Conversations is a live transformation of dialogue into sound texture between a cellist and a programmer. It starts with solo cello, playing a transcription of words from a Benjamin Britten interview. The programmer types code live to record, alter, and play samples from the cello. They wear a flexible OLED screen mask to share the code with the audience. A feedback loop of improvisation and sampling alters Britten’s words until they fully turn into a shimmering cloud of sound textures.
This juxtaposition of old and new, human and machine, addresses queer minds across time. The ultimate goal of the performance is to invite people to reach a shared understanding of the LGBTQ+ community across different cultures, generations, and realities.
