Memoryhouse: Sound, Space, and Living Memory
Memoryhouse is an ongoing, durational performance by Antunes that unfolds across public spaces. Since 2018, ten chapters have been performed, each one building on the last through memory, sound, and shifting environments. The work treats memory as a living process, where the past and present coexist through embodied experience.

At the center of the piece is a transportable home—part archive, part stage—that transforms with each location. Some objects have been with Antunes since the first chapter; others are found on site or made in her Los Angeles studio. These materials carry emotional and historical weight, linking performances across time.

Sound plays a central role: field recordings, ambient noise, and found audio shape each chapter’s atmosphere. The result is an immersive memory-scape, where sound and space act as carriers of experience.

Each iteration of Memoryhouse adds to a growing archive of notes, images, and recordings—not as fixed documentation, but as a living, fragmented map. With every chapter, the work becomes both a vessel of memory and an act of becoming.

This iteration will include sound engineering and collaboration by Amy Zimmitti.

Amanda Maciel Antunes (dama) is a self-taught artist and considers her art a transdisciplinary and spiritual practice. She creates for/in non-traditional spaces and works on responsive and durational projects, often concerned with anthropological texts and poetry in translation. Her practice reflects on the selective nature of memory, language and cultural heritage, as processes that help us adapt and interpret our present. She is currently working on her first publication titled Second Birth with HEXENTEXTE, inspired by her research of the Anaïs Nin Papers archived at UCLA.
