Tales That Dead Women Tell by Fantomette
In our sound and writing we connect invisible dots by commingling with phantoms. They do not allow us to bamboozle with obfuscations. The bringing to light of women robbed of the power of telling their own stories is an ongoing vocation—these are the spirits compelling us to speak for them.
Our collaboration began naturally using field recordings and text from Les Guérillères by Monique Wittig. The track submitted is titled They Say, and will be the sound we perform at SoundPedro.
Amy Zimmitti is our sound engineer who will be collaborating with us on the technical and creative aspects of our recordings and live performances.

They Say‘ is an audio journey containing the whispered voices of Monique Wittig’s Les Guerriles. ‘They Say’ appeals to our imagination as a metaphor for community. The living women in Les Guérillères connect to the dead as if all are part of the same continuum. This is the journey of Fantomette.
Fantomette is a sound a visual project about hidden women’s histories by Adele Bertei and Amanda Maciel Antunes.
The sound compiles field recordings, sonic memories and reading of texts using our voices, based on extensive research of women archives throughout history.
