Alien Jungle
For Chthonic soundpedro 2025, I will become a roaming alien character, merging my body and voice with echoes of the sounds I once screamed into the forest at 19. Those raw expressions gave me a sense of peace and affirmed my artistic path, no matter its form.
Now, as an adult, I look back on the courage that act required. As someone who has long created in private before revealing my work to the world, stepping into this performance artist role is a bold new frontier. Through this alien form, I seek to traverse multiple dimensions, forging an unexpected and visceral connection with my audience.
Karena Massengill was born and raised in Ukiah, CA. She has travelled around the world and lived in Canada for 11 years before moving to S. CA.
She has a fulltime art practice in San Pedro with a 2500 sq foot studio and art gallery display area. Her education includes an MFA and BFA in sculpture, and a BEd. In Visual and Technology Arts. She has exhibited her artwork in the US, Canada, Russia, and S. America.
