Duet for Trombone and Table Saw
A few summers ago, I was working on a project cutting large pieces of plywood on a table saw. During a lengthy cut, I wasn’t paying attention to my hand placement and pushed my right hand straight across the blade. At first I didn’t even know what happened, I pulled my hand back before it had started bleeding. When I finally looked, I saw my flesh ripped out of my glove and my thumb hanging on by a thread. I screamed and my brother swiftly rushed me to the hospital.
The piece begins with a bowed saw blade and soft air sounds, and grows into chaotic anguish expressed through the sound of a table saw whirring, blades crashing, and a trombone shrieking.
