Cold Breath
It was one of those hot, endless nights. The cabin, deep in a silent forest, should have been a refuge, but something kept me awake. Not the insects or the wind—it was her, wheezing in the kitchen like a wounded animal.

I struggled to sleep. The soundscape was dominated by her holy motor, the whisper of her gases. Refrigerators often hum, but this one felt personal, almost intentional. Its low, constant buzz became the heartbeat of the night, as if it were speaking to me.

I decided to face it. Armed with my microphone and recorder, I approached in the dark, fearing it might react. I captured its mechanical breath. Weeks later, back in the city, I dissected the sound into 16 bands, each fragment an echo of its cold breath. Rearranged, they took me back to its interior, to that night when I tore off its last breath by unplugging it. But its hum remains, like the beat of a buried heart, in my head, my music, my sleepless nights.
