Heidi Ross is a chef and multidisciplinary artist who uses food as visceral communication through communion—exploring sentience and interspecies connection through sound, touch, taste, and new media. Her conceptual, somatic, and artistic approach to cooking comes through in immersive performances that connect people around a shared experience. Her work centers curiosity and patience, delight in nature and the mundane, and the profound possibilities of sound.

PARTICIPATION
I’m a professional chef and sound artist who makes food, sounds, and movement in performance. My work explores embodiment and nourishment in social collaboration and engagement, drawing poetic attention to form, sound, and materials.
My setup includes a 2.5 ft x 4 ft mushroom shaped sound table which I prepare food on and amplify with a small battery powered PA system. Audience members are invited to sit on the ground (I bring cushions for optimum listening comfort) and listen to the ambient, rhythmic sounds of cutting, chopping, sizzling, and searing while I prepare a small bite for them to eat. Once each mini performance is done, those listening will be offered a bite of the food that they’ve heard and watched me prepare. The philosophy behind it being the literal and metaphorical digestion of ideas, the transformation of things.
I want people who experience my art to feel present, transformed, and nourished in mind and body.
