Chthonic: relating to the Underworld, a realm ruled by enigmas and psychopomps, a place of forgotten or yet to be remembered potential. Don’t mistake it for mere subterranean; chthonic implies both profound existential dread and hope.
2025 PROGRAMS
NEW FOR THIS YEAR: We are using one submission form for on-site/soundscapes/earmaginations. See information shown below individual programs.
Read complete instructions. Link to submission form is at the bottom of this page.
Questions? Feel free to contact Marco: soundpedro.ear@gmail.com or 562-413-5868.
on-site [installations & performances]
- Artists may propose projects for these modes of presentation:
- Installation – fixed location
- Performance – fixed location
- Roaming presentation
- soundpedro will not furnish any equipment. Artists are responsible for all computers, projectors, speakers, microphones, power strips, generators, cables etc. soundpedro will provide the site(s) and, in some cases, power. Sites not near buildings will not have power available. Portable batteries are a good option (Portable Power Station: https://tinyurl.com/bd73y9a4).
- Keep in mind that Angels Gate Cultural Center can be subject to high winds and low temperatures. Please ensure that your proposed work is stable and wind tolerant. It gets dark after sunset. Artists should incorporate lighting elements if necessary.
- If you have questions, please check with Marco at 562-413-5868 before submitting your proposal.
For accepted on-site Artists
Prior to day of the Event:
- Artists will provide all materials requested by FLOOD for website and promotion.
- There will be an artists Meet & Greet with FLOOD, two to three weeks before the event on-site at Angels Gate Cultural Center, for artists to discuss location options and power availability.
Day of the Event:
- Artists or artist representatives must be onsite to install, de-install, and host the installation for the duration of the event from 10AM – 11PM.
- Check-in time is from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM (to pick up a site number, check contact info, verify receipt of loan form, etc.)
- De-install and check out is immediately after the event from 10PM – 11PM, NOT BEFORE, and must be completed before you leave AGCC.
- Artists cannot begin set up before the time and date, or come the day after for tear down. Approach this as if it were a pop-up.
- You will be able to drive to your location, or nearby, for load in and then will be directed to artist parking on the West bluff.
- Bring extra cords and duct tape.
- Bring lighting fixtures (e.g. clamp lights) if in an unlit location (Keep in mind the extra power draw from lighting if you are relying on a generator or battery).
- Be prepared for rough terrain, sun exposure, and temperature changes (e.g. jackets, umbrellas, blankets, practical footwear, etc.)
- Bring a friend/helper to attend to the installation and equipment in the event you run an errand, visit the restrooms, or wish to tour the event.
- Sound check is between 6:00 & 6:30PM. Please be completely set up by 6:30PM

THINGS TO KNOW & DO BEFORE APPLYING
For Artists new to soundpedro
- Start by reviewing the Participate page.
- It is important that artists understand that soundpedro is a sound art event and not a music event. To know the difference, see Participate page.
- It is helpful to view and read the soundpedro website in order to become familiar with our programming:
Explore past seasons and learn about the location. - If you are local, we encourage you to visit Angels Gate Cultural Center in person.
- Review the FAQ & FUQ page. Refer to “Participating and Interested Artists” section.
For all Artists
- Review programs from prior years on the past seasons pages.
- Production expenses are the responsibility of the artist. FLOOD will write letters of recommendation for those artists seeking funds elsewhere.
- FLOOD’s Proposal Review:
FLOOD will review your proposal and will email you our decision.
If we have questions, we may contact you via the email or phone number in your submission.
Terms & Conditions
- Production of work and/or travel expenses are the responsibility of the artist. We are sometimes able to provide accommodations for artists traveling from out of town (200+ miles). FLOOD will write letters of recommendation for those artists seeking funds elsewhere.

- The submission did not follow the guidelines.
- The number of submissions relative to the amount and type of space available.
- The work under consideration may not be a good fit, aesthetically or thematically.
- The work did not appear to be completely realized.
- As the event grows, we are not be able to invite artists back with the same frequency for the same type of work, as in the past. However, we encourage returning applicants to consider submitting something in a new category.
