PARTICIPATION
Lunar Array–Starfield
Starfield is a site-responsive sound installation composed of a ring of crescent-shaped wooden forms that act as speakers themselves, each elevated on slender supports with lights. Arranged in a circle, these objects create an immersive environment that audiences can enter, moving freely among them as sound and light shift across the field.
Each crescent acts as an independent voice, producing a combination of synthesized tones and recorded sounds that are intermittent and constantly changing. They are networked, allowing them to register one another’s activity—drifting in and out of alignment and forming temporary groupings that dissolve and reconfigure over time.
As participants move through the installation, their listening perspective continually shifts. Up close, individual voices emerge with clarity; from the center, the sounds blend into a diffuse, collective texture. The result is a dynamic sonic environment that feels responsive and alive.

Cassia Streb and Thadeus Frazier-Reed are California–based artists working collaboratively across sound, performance, and interactive systems. Cassia creates site-responsive work using viola, percussion, and found objects, often shaped by the people and environments for which it is made. Thadeus is a composer and creative technologist who builds custom systems for live and spatial interaction.
Together, they develop pieces that unfold through touch, movement, and attention, where materials, technologies, and architectural spaces become active participants. Their work invites audiences to encounter familiar environments in new ways, through subtle shifts in sound, perception, and presence.
